White River Bridge

Postby danadyan on Mon May 18, 2009 3:07 am

Don't know if I'm placing this in the right location. I have a question about the white river bridge. I recently heard that a new bridge is being built in Clarendon. I was just curious about when it will be completed. I've been over the white river bridge numerous times, especially when I was a child---I have relatives that live in Pine Bluff. I don't know why, but I've always been petrified of that bridge for as along as I can remember. Will the old bridge be left there, moved, or taken down?

I do hope someone can give me some insight on this.

Thank you

I'm pretty certain the bridge is scheduled to be completed in 2012. Recently, a bid of $30 million was accepted to begin construction. I'm not sure when the actual construction will begin but the overabundance of water lately is certianly hampering it.

As for if the old bridge will be tore down, I'm fairly certain it will be. It would nice to close it off to cars and keep it open to pedestrians for bird watching and the like but the cost of upkeep the county would have to pay just simply isn't there.

Hope this helps.
